Know before you go
- All guided tours of the Colosseum include access to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill.
- Certain levels of the Colosseum are restricted to guided groups only, so individual tourists cannot enter these areas. Therefore, a guided tour is the best way to fully experience the Colosseum.
- Please arrive at least 20 minutes before your scheduled time, as there are strict visitor capacity limits. Late arrivals might end up in you missing the tour without a refund.
- Carry a valid ID, as it is required for security checks.
- Food and drinks are not allowed inside the premises. If you bring water, you will need to empty it before entering, but you can refill it after the tour.
- Wear comfortable shoes, as the tour involves a lot of walking.

Visitors can stay in the Arena for approximately 30 minutes and then make way for the next group. To preserve the delicate monument, only 50 visitors are permitted on the Arena floor at a time.
Can you access the Arena on free Sundays?
The first Sunday of every month is free for all visitors. Unfortunately on such free Sundays, Arena and Underground are closed to the public.
